I’m interested in collecting examples of local content creation in/by community networks. And I think this could potentially be useful/interesting for everyone in this group as well.
If you’re willing/able to, please share:
(1) any links to stories/resources that specifically illustrate how CNs are promoting/creating/enabling local content - including info in local languages, locally relevant resources or learning materials, and also entertainment content;
(2) any stories you’d like to tell yourselves from personal experiences working in/with CNs here – feel free to just write something!
Recently, some community networks shared their Covid19 response stories on the ITU platform, REG4COVID.
A team of us worked together to compile all the shared responses and summarised them here: https://www.apc.org/en/news/reg4covid-civil-society-responses-pandemic
In the summary, you will find some of the CNs you might want to reach out to who are producing local content to inform their communities about health and wellbeing information, educational materials , using radio for storytelling and also trying to dispel misinformation.
I hope others can add to more leads here.
There are some people in this forum that might be able to shed some light on the topic:
@karlavelascor who works on REDES supporting indigenous communities in Mexico, they have a focus on radio production, so there is a high chance there are stories over there
I think @SarbaniBelur might have some stories related to it, specifically in the CN she has been supporting last year
Our partners @msuantak and @Gustaff_Harriman_Isk also have local knowledge gathering.
I think also our brazilian friends @hiure and @luandro might have a story or two.
An example that I’ve witnessed is local educational content and an enciclopedia being created by a group of teachers in Chiapas, Mexico: https://www.facebook.com/Intrabach
(1) Here we create and recreate materials in our local network and most of them are only available locally. But lately we have made an effort to upload our material to the internet archive https://archive.org/search.php?query=portalsemporteiras
perhaps @lubagope can share a very beautiful PSP work with the women of the community
(2) Besides the community network I am part of coolab (http://coolab.org) and we help other communities to create their own CNs. Once in a joint activity with @karlavelascor Redes in an indigenous community “Pueblo Novo” we created a prototype of a simple local html site on a microcomputer where participants put herbal medicines in their native languages and it was the most impacting local content experiment I have ever seen.
